PRIVACY POLICY

On January 01, 2004, the federal government's PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) legislation took effect in those provinces that do not have their own privacy legislation. All corporations in Ontario are affected by this new legislation.

Homematix Systems Inc. greatly values our customers. Our relationships with our customers are very important to us. Be assured that any personal information you may give to Homematix Systems Inc. is used and disclosed solely for the purpose you intended, and we would never request information that was not necessary in our effort to serve you efficiently and to your complete satisfaction. Also be assured that safeguards are in place to protect any personal information we may have. The "we", "us", "our" as it is used in this document refers to Homematix Systems Inc. Homematix and Homematix Systems Inc. are interchangeable in this document.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Personal information is information that may be used to identify you. Such information may include your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, credit information, records and purchase history.

WHY DOES HOMEMATIX SYSTEMS INC. COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION?

Homematix Systems Inc. collects information that assists us in establishing and/or maintaining our relationship with you. This information is the foundation of the relationship between you and Homematix.

This information helps us to better serve your needs with the products and services we provide. For example, it helps us to inform you about special promotions, product upgrades and new technology.

We collect personal information during any recruitment process for available career opportunities with Homematix Systems Inc.

WHAT INFORMATION DOES HOMEMATIX SYSTEMS INC. COLLECT?

We may collect any or all of the following information: name, address, phone number, e-mail address, credit information.

We collect information about the products and services that we have provided to you. Reasons for this include your personal safety and protection. For example the location of motion sensors, smoke detectors or other types of security devices installed in your home or business are noted for your own safety and protection.

In some instances we also collect credit information that we gather through credit applications from those customers applying for credit with Homematix Systems Inc. This information includes financial information and references. Such information may come from another party such as financial institutions, and any references you provide to us.

We collect your personal information when you may apply for employment opportunities with Homematix Systems Inc. This information is contained on your resume and/or employment application, or electronically through e-mail.

DOES HOMEMATIX SYSTEMS INC. DISCLOSE MY INFORMATION TO THIRD PARTIES?

Yes, some information must be disclosed to third parties, as part of the process of us doing business together. Below are details on who we may disclose your information to, and what information that includes.

  1. SECURITY SYSTEM CUSTOMERS including MONITORED CUSTOMERS:

    If you are a monitored security customer, the central monitoring station for your monitored security system is provided with your personal information. Your name, address, phone number, password(s) and any contact information you provide to Homematix Systems Inc. on your monitoring agreement is forwarded to the central monitoring station. They require this information to monitor your property.

    If you are a monitored account that is using the services of an alarm response company, such as Progarde Security Inc. to act as your keyholder, this party also requires identifiable information in order to serve you.

    In some instances, your police department too is provided your personal information in order to establish an alarm control number. The alarm control number is assigned per address within their jurisdiction. The police, to identify you with that address, use this number. The only personal information that may be provided to the police department is your name, address and phone number, with an indication of whether your security system is monitored. Such information is collected and forwarded to the police department as per their policies and regulations.

    Both monitored and non-monitored security systems generally require an alarm control number.

  2. PRODUCT WARRANTIES:

    Many of our suppliers request a warranty form to be completed whenever we replace or repair a product manufactured by them that we have installed or serviced that is within the manufacturer's warranty period. Information on this form includes, your name, address, phone number, product and purchase date.

  3. LEGAL AUTHORITIES/COLLECTION AGENCIES:

    In the event that we would require third party, and/or legal assistance in collecting a delinquent account; we will provide a collection agency, and/or legal authority, with the information that is required in order to collect the delinquent account on our behalf, or begin any proceedings therein. Other legal authorities may also require your personal information. In such cases we would disclose your personal information only as we are required to do so by law.

  4. EMPLOYMENT REFERENCES:

    When applying for career opportunities with Homematix Systems Inc., employment and/or personal references that you provide may be checked as part of the hiring process. It is assumed that if you provide this information to us, and you are seeking employment, you would expect us to verify any applicable information contained in your resume. We will not forward your resume to other companies who may have opportunities, employment agencies, or any other third party without your consent.

  5. INSURANCE COMPANIES:

    Many insurance companies require a certificate of installation of your security system from Homematix in order to offer you any discounts on your policy. This of course varies per company. As a matter of course, we do not provide any information about your security system to anyone without your consent.

HOW IS HOMEMATIX SYSTEMS INC. PROTECTING MY INFORMATION?

Homematix Systems Inc. firmly believes that our customers are our most valuable assets. Like any asset we have measures in place to safeguard and protect it from misuse and unauthorized access.

Homematix Systems Inc. takes necessary measures in order to safeguard your personal information.

  1. We train and communicate with our employees, and any other party about the importance we place on personal information, and the way it is handled in compliance with our policy and applicable legislation or laws.

  2. Your information is stored in locked file cabinets, and/or password and virus protected computers.

  3. Homematix Systems Inc. has the latest technology in security equipment including smoke/fire alarms, smoke cloak, closed-circuit television (cctv), central monitoring, and alarm response.

  4. We do not store information indefinitely. If we do not have an intended purpose for your information, it is destroyed, deleted or removed. This is done in accordance with our policies and any applicable legislation or laws.

  5. We do not collect "cookies" or subscribe to or use any other method of tracking and storing information electronically when you visit any pages on our web site.

DO YOU REQUIRE MY PERMISSION TO COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION?

Your permission is required in order for us to use any of your personal information you have provided to us for any purpose other than the intended or implied purpose(s). Your consent can be verbal, written, or electronic. You will be made aware of the purpose of collecting your information prior to the collection of it.

It is implied that if you provide us with personal information, you have given your consent to use your information for its intended purpose.

You may withdraw, refuse or give your consent at any time.

Withdrawal of your consent is subject to any contractual or legal obligations you may have, (example your monitoring agreement).

Should you choose to withdraw your consent to use any personal information for the purpose of contacting you with any special promotions, newsletters, product information, or any other marketing purpose, we must receive your request in writing. In a timely manner, we will remove your information from any list that we may create.

We will respect your decision to withdraw your consent for the use of or refuse to provide your personal information, but please be reminded that such a choice may limit our ability to serve your needs to your utmost satisfaction.

ACCESSIBILITY

You may contact Homematix Systems Inc. at any time to verify what information we have about you. A reasonable timeframe may be required to compile your information. You may also contact us at any time to change, edit or have your information added/removed from our systems (subject to any legal or contractual obligations). It is your responsibility to provide us with accurate information, and it is also your responsibility to correct, revise or edit your information; we do not contact our customers to "update" information.

Please note that in person inquiries will require you to provide us with photo identification.

Telephone, fax, and e-mail requests are for general inquiries only; identification is necessary for specific inquiries.

If you are a monitored security customer, we will require your name, system number and password for all inquiries.

If you are inquiring about an individual(s) other than yourself, you must provide express written and signed consent to do so from the individual(s) in question with details about what information is to be disclosed.

All information remains in the possession of Homematix Systems Inc.
